Our story

Sika Dwa Childrens Haven was founded in 2013 by individuals who had themselves experienced life without parents and were once among the many street children in the Machumba region. One day, when one of the founders was around 13 years old, their life took an unexpected turn.

They encountered a compassionate couple who welcomed them with open arms, offering them shelter, food, and a loving family. From that moment on, they lived in Machumba. With the couple’s encouragement, one of the founders brought a friend from the streets to join their new home. Together, they grew up alongside three younger siblings, and with a piece of land generously provided by their grandmother, they established the Sika Dwa Childrens Haven orphanage in 2013, caring for six additional children who had also lost their parents.

This experience inspired them to share the happiness they had found and to name their new home "Sika Dwa Childrens Haven." It now serves as a haven for children in the region who have lost their parents or need support due to challenging circumstances, offering them hope and a pathway to a brighter future.

In the beginning, the founders themselves taught the first group of children basic subjects like math, English, and general education. Since 2015, two dedicated teachers have been looking after the children every weekday. The orphanage now functions as a preschool or kindergarten, primarily serving children aged 3-6 years. Here, they learn their first English words, fundamental numbers, and writing skills in a caring and playful environment. Some children live at the orphanage, while others reside in the village with surviving relatives, and some have been taken in by local families as foster children. The community’s solidarity and support are truly inspiring.
